No matter how much love and care you put into your vehicle, eventually, you may start to run into problems with its engine. If you notice any of these signs that you may need to replace your engine, you can have a better idea of where to go next.
Unusual Sounds
Since many of us don’t really take lots of time to look under the hood until we already think something might be wrong, listening for unusual sounds is one of the best ways to tell if an engine is struggling. If you notice weird clicking noises when you turn on the car or hear peculiar rattling when your vehicle is idling, you should look at it sooner rather than later.
Check Engine Light
For many of us, the check engine light is a mysterious thing that we often ignore, but it could be a warning sign that you may need to replace your engine. The check engine light serves the helpful purpose of letting us know something is wrong, but the issue could be anything from a loose component to critical engine failure.
Many mechanics and auto parts stores have a scanner they can hook up to your car to check for the cause of the light. If it’s serious, you may need to perform an engine overhaul. At other times, you may need to replace the engine entirely.
Exhaust or Smells
Smoke is a universally bad sign when it comes to your engine. There are very few good situations where you’ll notice dark exhaust coming from under your hood. If you see any excess exhaust or smell gas, oil, or a burning odor, you may have a problem.
Sometimes, you may have a leak that needs repairing, or you may need to clean out your engine. If you’re lucky, the problem may be minimal, but if the smells and sights persist, you may need to invest in a replacement.
